The Flight Experience Braunschweig ("Brunswick") offers a flight experience defined by precision and industry. As Germany’s "City of Science," it is a hub for aviation research and the home of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Unlike the chaotic sprawl of other cities, Braunschweig is orderly and sits on the flat North German Plain, just north of the Harz mountains.
The local airport, Braunschweig-Wolfsburg (EDVE), is a unique playground for simmers. It is not a standard regional hub; it is a "Research Airport." On any given day in the sim, you might share the tarmac with DLR’s specialized test aircraft (like the modified A320 ATRA or Do 228) or the private corporate fleet of Volkswagen Air Service, which shuttles executives from the nearby Wolfsburg HQ.
Visual Highlights
The Oker Ring: The river Oker splits to encircle the entire city center, effectively turning the historic downtown into a massive island. From 2,000ft, this "blue moat" is the primary method of orienting yourself over the city.
Happy Rizzi House: This is one of the most unique buildings in the simulator. Located near the Schloss Arkaden, its facade is a riot of colorful, psychedelic pop-art faces that stands out vividly against the surrounding traditional German architecture.
The Quadriga: Atop the reconstructed Brunswick Palace, you can spot the massive copper sculpture of Brunonia driving a four-horse chariot. It is the central anchor point of the downtown grid.
Eintracht-Stadion: The home of the local football team is a distinct oval landmark in the northern suburbs. It sits right next to the Oker river and serves as a great visual checkpoint for the base leg of Runway 26.
Pilot’s Note: Beware the North! When departing Runway 08 or 26 at EDVE, do not drift north of the runway centerline. The grass strip immediately parallel to the main runway is a highly active Glider Airfield. In the real world (and on serious sim networks), an early breakout turn to the north is strictly prohibited to avoid collisions with winched gliders.
