The Flight Experience Vancouver is widely considered one of the most scenic cities in the world to fly over. It offers a stunning "Sea-to-Sky" aesthetic where a modern glass metropolis sits sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean and the snow-capped North Shore Mountains.
For virtual pilots, this city offers a rare dual experience. You have the heavy international traffic of Vancouver International (CYVR) on Sea Island, but you also have one of the busiest seaplane hubs in the world at Vancouver Harbour (CYHC). Managing the airspace here means dodging 777s while watching out for De Havilland Beavers and Otters skimming the water below you.
Visual Highlights
Canada Place: The white "Five Sails" roof of the cruise ship terminal jutting into the harbor is the city's signature landmark. It is the perfect visual target for floatplanes setting up for a landing in Coal Harbour.

Lions Gate Bridge: This suspension bridge connects downtown (Stanley Park) to North Vancouver. Flying under it is a popular (and reckless) sim challenge, but flying over it provides a cinematic view of the ships entering the inlet.
Stanley Park: This massive green peninsula is distinct from the urban grid. It acts as a giant "arrow" pointing toward the North Shore, making visual orientation effortless.
BC Place: The stadium’s glowing "crown of thorns" roof (actually retractable support beams) stands out vividly in the skyline, especially during dusk or night flights.
The Lions: The twin peaks of the North Shore mountains overlook the city. They serve as a constant altitude check—if you are below the snowline, you are likely in the weeds!
Pilot’s Note: For the ultimate Vancouver experience, fly a Floatplane Approach into CYHC (Coal Harbour). This is one of the most challenging commercial environments for seaplanes. You must navigate the "Alpha" or "Bravo" arrival routes, staying strictly below 500ft to avoid the CYVR control zone, threading the gap between the Lions Gate Bridge and the skyscrapers to land on the water right in front of the convention center.
