The Flight Experience Yokohama serves as the perfect visual companion to Tokyo, located just south along the bay. While Tokyo is an endless sea of density, Yokohama offers a more structured, futuristic waterfront skyline defined by the Minato Mirai 21 district.
Because it sits directly in the departure and arrival paths of Haneda Airport (RJTT), you will often find yourself flying over Yokohama’s harbor at low altitude while maneuvering for a landing. The transition from the heavy industrial cranes of the port to the gleaming skyscrapers of the city center is one of the most satisfying visual gradients in the simulator.
Visual Highlights
Yokohama Landmark Tower: This massive skyscraper is the city's anchor. Its distinct chisel-shaped top is unmistakable and serves as a critical VFR reporting point for pilots skirting the Haneda control zone.
Cosmo Clock 21: The world’s largest clock-style Ferris wheel. In the sim, it lights up brilliantly at night, acting as a spinning multi-colored beacon on the waterfront.
Yokohama Bay Bridge: A massive cable-stayed bridge that connects the Honmoku and Daikoku piers. Flying under this bridge is a popular challenge for stunt pilots, though strictly illegal in the real world!
The "Gundam" Factory: In many updated sceneries (and World Updates), you can spot the 1:1 scale moving Gundam robot at the Yamashita Pier. It is a fun "easter egg" to spot from a helicopter.
Red Brick Warehouse: These historic buildings offer a sharp contrast to the modern glass towers nearby, easily identifiable by their distinct rust-colored textures near the water.
Pilot’s Note: Yokohama is arguably the best Helicopter Playground in Japan. The rooftops in the Minato Mirai district are broad and flat, and many buildings have helipads (both official and unofficial). A popular run is to depart the Yokohama Heliport (RJTH), hug the coastline at 500ft, and practice precision landings on the skyscraper tops while watching the heavy jets depart from Haneda in the distance.
